I was completely behind the Frozen craze. My daughter was about to turn two and going to the movies with her while having a one month old just didn’t seem like something I wanted to do. When it finally hit Redbox, I figured I should give it a try. I mean, it had been several months later and my Facebook feed was still full of Frozen references, kids singing Let it Go, parents complaining that they just finished watching it for the third time that day. So I did…and Bee LOVED it.
We got two watches out of it in that 24 hours. I figured, no biggie, it was a movie that she enjoyed. Then she proceeded to ask me almost EVERYDAY to see Frozen for the next THREE months!
So when Costco had the Blu-Ray/DVD set on sale for $18, I jumped on it.
Initially this post was going to be more of a positive nature… lessons learned or helpful hints. Yet, I came across this post from Epic Mommy Adventures that seemed to break Frozen down much further than I was going to. So, I decided not to give you that. After watching it more than a couple of dozen times, there’s nothing else to do but have unanswered questions about Frozen.
Now, if you haven’t seen it yet, don’t continue reading because this will have TONS of spoilers!
About Elsa and Anna’s Parents
1. They don’t hear the kids playing in the great room until Elsa starts yelling “Mom” and “Dad”. Where were they? Those two were screaming and laughing way before anything went wrong.
2. They don’t listen. Grandpoppy, the King of the Trolls, told the parents that fear would be Elsa’s enemy. What do the parents do? Lock the poor little girl in a room by herself! Wouldn’t that be scary to you?
3. They give her gloves to “conceal”. Well, I don’t know about you, but ice doesn’t seem to have a problem going through gloves and they saw that her room was often covered in ice… so they couldn’t think of a better solution?
4. They remove Elsa from her best friend, Anna. Somehow, for the both of them, separating them seemed to be the best move. When has isolation from your best friend ever been the solution to a major personal problem?
5. They don’t let Anna have friends. So, they strip Elsa away from Anna, then proceed to keep her locked up in the house, apparently alone, because she had to sing a song about it.
About the Castle:
6. Who was taking care of the castle after the parents died? Apparently not one person who wanted to play with little Anna or bring in their kids to play with her.
7. Who was running the kingdom between the king’s death and the coronation? You would think there was some guardian of some sort. Yet, after Elsa is coronated, then proceeds to run off into the distance, Anna leaves and gives control single-handedly over to Prince Hans! She technically isn’t in charge… she wasn’t the queen.
About Let it Go:
I personally find the song confusing. But I also find the song Happy confusing ~ [Tweet “Who wants a room without a roof? Is it a room without a roof? What’s the point of walls if you don’t have a roof to go with it?”] Don’t get me wrong, both songs play on repeat in my home, but I digress…
8. The song is about “Let it Go”, yet Elsa’s not really letting anything go because she ran away from anyone and everyone who cared for her. She’s still completely stuck in her own pain and refuses to let anyone help.
9. Elsa doesn’t care what anyone is going to say, but ran away from their judgment before they even had the opportunity to judge!
10. It’s easy to have no rules when there’s no one around. She’s the queen of an isolated castle.
11. How was Elsa the perfect girl? She was locked in her room for most of her life.
About Weselton:
12. What was his grand plan to take over Arandel? He danced with Anna, then proceeds to be a “C” character in the rest of the movie.
About Kristoff:
13. Where did he come from? If he’s an orphan, why was he out working the ice and none of the men noticed that this kid was around? No reaction at all… they just kept singing on their merry way?
About Hans:
14. Who needs to get fired from the castle? How did Hans know so much about the girls that he knew that they were both lonely, and he’d be able to pick up one of them to be his bride? That’s beyond wishful thinking.
About Elsa:
15. How did she get so far ahead of Anna… Anna ran right after Elsa, yet was able to get ahead, and build an entire castle on the top of the mountain before Anna got there.
There you have it… some of my unanswered questions. Maybe you can answer some of them. Or maybe you have your own. Leave me a comment and let me know!
Great post April! I was honestly going to do a follow-up post with unanswered questions, but never got around to it! That movie is equally cute and confusing. Nothing really comes together. Nevertheless, my son loves it too! And has been singing Let It Go since watching the movie at school. Thanks for sharing! You have inspired me to do a follow-up to your follow-up!
LOL! I completely agree! I mean, it's on almost every day in our house, yet it's such an incomplete story! I'll be happy to share your follow to my follow up!
Ha ha! I Have watched this movie for months with my son and have the same questions!! Especially why they chose to isolate both kids.
It's just a very odd solution for this problem and both parents seemed a-ok with it! There wasn't even opposition from one of them saying "Are you sure that's the right thing to do?" Scary!
Why couldn't the girls just grow up together? Nothing happened when Anna found out the truth. She didn't die or have some horrible troll disease happen because she learned the truth. That's my rant! Great unanswered questions!
Exactly! I don't think she needed to forget that Elsa was magical and I certainly don't think they had to be separated! So unfair to both girls!
I think the reason behind Anna and Elsa being separated was because the troll said to heal her head he had to replace all traces of magic (not sure why) and the parents were afraid that if she and Elsa still played with one another Anna would find out again about the magic and possibly go into a coma (was it a coma?) again.
That is the only explanation as to why I think they would do that.
My thought behind Kristoff is that maybe his father was one of the ice pickers and one day he forgot Kristoff, or Kristoff ran off after a day of work. Or maybe his parents died? Disney does love killing off the parents!
Those are some great answers! Disney is very cruel to the parents! LOL at how Kristoff became an orphan. That's very possible.
I loved this and must admit, I watch this movie almost everyday around here with me two, who as you know are obsessed, but still you brought up so many valid questions and definitely couldn't help, but pin this one. Also, huge thank you for sharing this at the Pin It Party, too
Thanks so much for pinning! Oh, I need to repin a few too! I came over late last night. I'm sorry to see you go from FTSF.
Some of these things tend to bother me too when we watch this movie. Also, why does Hanz look after Anna with a dreamy look after they meet? Who's benefit is it for? If he was plotting then, he wouldn't have done that.
But yeah, I tend to ruin movies for myself with that, so now I just try not to pick them apart and just enjoy them for what they are.
I can enjoy a movie for what it is the first dozen times I watch it, but after a while, I have to start wondering. You know, my son said something about the Hanz thing. He went above and beyond for someone just pretending to like her. No, sideways glances, no hint that he didn't even like her. I thought he'd at least pretend to kiss her and act surprised that there was no "true love" with all the acting the rest of the movie. LOL!
You've hit the nail on the head! Pinned (found you through Creative Geekery, by the way).
Thanks! So glad you liked it! I'll have to stop by and thank her!
My little girl loves Frozen but I agree, so many unanswered questions from that movie, especially who was taking care of them and in charge after parents passed. I read the post from Epic Mommy Adventures and that was a good one on all the lessons learned. Great job on this post! Found you at Friday Flash Blog.
Yes I didn\’t think I could top that one! They obviously got fed, but did Elsa open the door to eat? Thanks for coming by!
Ahhh, very good questions indeed! I wondered some of these myself, but with Disney (as much of a Disney kid that I am and how much I love Disney) there's always something off or inappropriate. I guess its because in essence the story lines are written by adults, and so the logic usually doesn't sit right. You have adults trying to think with the same innocence as kids, and it usually doesn't work. I just try not to dig too deep, because if you do, you'll noticed so much more and then be like, "why do I even let my kids watch this?". When I look back at Disney movies now as an adult, I'm always so surprised at how much of the subject matter isn't for kids and its just stuff they would even be clued in on, hence why most (young kids) wouldn't question any of this.
Agreed. But interestingly enough, my son wrote at least half of these questions. He's 10! I think kids now days are a lot more keen on the adult subjects. I mean, the grittiest it got back then was when Theo would get in trouble for cheating. Now, on television at 8, you can see a woman in a bra or now there's some cursing. That never happened when we were younger. I still wish Disney would stop killing off parents.
